Meet Nicole
Dr. Nicole Black, LPC-S, LCDC, is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant with extensive experience and advanced training in working with children, adolescents, and adults affected by complex trauma and dissociative disorders. She specializes in the treatment of complex trauma, dissociative conditions, attachment injury, and symptoms related to Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder. She is the owner of Phoenix Arise Counseling and Consulting in Texas, a group practice offering innovative, evidence-based trauma and dissociation focused therapies to clients in person and online.Â
Dr. Black is the creator of the Dissociative Experiences Cards and the author of All Parts are Welcome: A Dissociate Living Journal and Listening to the Body Speak: Conversion Issues and Functional Neurological Symptoms in The Handbook of Complex Trauma and Dissociation in Children: Theory, Research and Clinical Applications. She is also a contributing author to the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and EMDR Therapy Combined Delivery Guidelines.
Dr. Black integrates depth-oriented, evidence-based approaches to support healing and integration. With advanced training in the SCID-D Interview (Semi-Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnosis of Dissociative Symptoms and Disorders, Steinberg, 1994, 2023) and extensive experience in the integration of EMDR therapy, play therapy, sand tray, clinical hypnosis, and ego state therapy, Dr. Black offers collaborative, trauma-informed case consultation to support clinicians in deepening their confidence and skill in working with complex cases.Â
Meet Jill
Jill Hosey, MSW RSW, LICSW, is a Registered Social Worker and Licensed Independent Social Worker with over 16 years of experience specializing in trauma, attachment, and dissociative disorders. She maintains a private practice in Toronto, Ontario, as well as Rhode Island and Massachusetts, serving children, youth, and adults impacted by complex trauma, developmental trauma, and interpersonal violence. Jill’s clinical orientation is grounded in a psychodynamic, phase-oriented, integrative approach that centers relational safety, the mind–body connection, client strengths, and individualized pathways to healing for survivors of acute and chronic trauma.
Jill is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and EMDR Trainer, certified in Clinical Hypnosis, and extensively trained in EMDR Therapy, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Ego State Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Polyvagal Theory. She is trained in the Adult Attachment Interview – Dynamic Maturational Model (AAI-DMM) and is a provider and consultant for the SCID-D Interview (Semi-Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnosis of Dissociative Symptoms and Disorders, Steinberg, 1994, 2023), receiving referrals directly from its creator, Dr. Marlene Steinberg.
Her work reflects a commitment to translating complex clinical concepts into accessible, practical frameworks for therapists. She is a faculty member and Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), where she has contributed to curriculum development, training initiatives, and the advancement of clinical standards in the field.
A core part of Jill’s professional identity is her contribution to writing, education, and the dissemination of trauma-informed and dissociation-informed practices. She has shared her work internationally through writing and teaching, and has presented on topics including perinatal trauma, dissociation, therapeutic attunement, assessment of dissociative symptoms and conditions, and building attachment and co-regulation with clients across the lifespan. She is the co-editor and contributing author of the Handbook for Complex Trauma and Dissociation in Children: Theory, Research, and Clinical Applications and a lead author of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and EMDR Therapy Combined Delivery Guidelines. Her presentations have been featured at ISSTD Annual Conferences, ISSTD webinars, interdisciplinary clinical dialogues, and global training platforms.
